Vacancy – Fellow (Economics)

CUTS Institute for Regulation & Competition (CIRC) invites application from suitable candidates for a position of Fellow (Economics).
The position expects to help the CIRC team further the mandate of the Institute to provide research-based capacity building solutions in the areas of Competition Policy and Law and Economic Regulation. The Institute promotes understanding and learning in the interface between law and economics.
Fellow (Economics) will lead the team in research studies, conducting fieldwork and designing, developing and executing innovative training/academic programs and conferences in niche areas including regulation, competition law, procurement and intellectual property.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates holding a post-graduate degree in Economics, with demonstrable experience in public policy and/or competition law for minimum three years are encouraged to apply. Ph.D. would be desirable, but not mandatory.

Job Profile and Responsibilities

Fellow (Economics) at CIRC is expected to:

  • Lead a team in conducting research (desk and field research) and other related activities to effectively deliver customized research and capacity building solutions to CIRC clients
  • Supervising team during fieldwork for engaging with stakeholders, data collection and analysis, etc.
  • Writing and ensuring high quality research publications from the team including course modules, research reports, briefing papers, monographs, articles, etc.
  • Overall responsibility of developing and delivery of courses in the core areas
  • Leading in organising research events and conferences; preparing outreach material for social media and print media
  • Organise/attend events/workshops
  • Liasioning with regulators and industry for research projects as well as capacity building events and training programmes
  • Implementation of specific activities as assigned from time to time in the course of discharge of duties

Proficiency in both written and spoken English with excellent communication skills, and working knowledge of computer applications are essential. Familiarity with software like Microsoft Word, Powerpoint & Excel etc.

Compensation

CIRC recognises that the right candidate will have a significant impact on the success of the organisation and is prepared to offer an attractive compensation package for the not for profit sector, commensurate with experience. The salary range for this position is INR 50,000 – 75,000 per month.

Location

The position is based in New Delhi. Travelling around India with potential for international travelling related to projects and conferences is expected.

Full Time Internship

Internship (Sustainable Infrastructure and Public Private Partnership)

With the mission to be a Centre of Excellence on Regulatory and Competition issues,

CUTS Institute for Regulation and Competition (CIRC) primarily focuses on competition policy & law, economic regulation in infrastructure sectors and PPPs, with an objective of reaching out to the target audience in India and other developing countries in Asia and Africa. CIRC has established Global Initiative for Sustainable Infrastructure (GISI), a think-tank platform to provide policy solutions to government, international organizations including the multilateral development banks to achieve equitable growth and shared prosperity through infrastructure development. CIRC has been working with various state governments and provide advisory services on the matters related to PPP modeling and innovative financing solutions.

About the internship

An internship program is offered by CIRC in sustainable infrastructure and PPP for students who are in their final year of masters or who have completed their masters within a year of applying for internship. A supervisor will be assigned to oversee the work of the researcher and will ensure a comprehensive research agenda for the intern for the time duration with specified outcome.

Current position- Research Intern (Sustainable Infrastructure)

Discipline-Infrastructure and PPP

Duration-Two months

Location– This is a full-time internship, and the interns are expected to work from our office in

New Delhi five days a week.

Responsibilities

The interns will undertake the following responsibilities:

  • Assisting in on-going research projects,
  • Writing research papers on relevant issues on the CIRC website/blog

Note: All interns shall be required to submit a paper on a related subject of about ten thousand words. CIRC would retain the right to publish these in their publications with due acknowledgment of authorship.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications Required

An ideal candidate should:

  • have recently been awarded their master’s degree, or be in penultimate year of Masters in environmental studies, economics, commerce, or finance;
  • Good writing and communication skills; fluency in English is desirable but not essential
  • Working knowledge for MS Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel)
