CUTS Institute for Regulation & Competition (CIRC) has appointed Nitin Desai as chairman of its Governing Council.

Noted economist and ex-United Nations Under Secretary-General, Mr. Desai takes over from Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council Chairperson C.
Rangarajan, who led the board for past four years. Dr. Rangarajan will continue to be associated with CIRC as the President Emeritus of the board.

Stating that CIRC would focus on research and capacity building on the interface between law and economics, Mr. Desai said: “Amidst current economic challenges there is an acute need of research and capacity-building relating to issues emanating from the interface between law and economics…CIRC would be an active contributor in this space.”

Shell Group of Companies, India, chairman Vikram Singh Mehta has taken over as Vice-President of the CIRC board. “CIRC would accelerate the awareness and capacity building on the issues relating to competition policy and law and economic regulation through partnerships with different institutions in India and abroad,” he added.
